4 factors to help determine the best time of year to remodel

  1. Weather Conditions. Depending on the location of your home remodel, weather conditions can play a huge part in when this work can and should be done. If you are remodeling your kitchen you may think weather does not really affect your project as it is inside, however the threat of a blizzard can still bring work to a halt. If your contractor cannot get to you or cannot leave your home due to weather conditions this could be a potential issue. Also, having a kitchen that is not in working condition can make feeding the family hard. During the warmer months, the option to grill and eat outside is there. If the job is outside, weather plays a bigger part in determining whether your work can get done or not. If it is raining and/or snowing workers may not be able to work on your project at all. Because of this, winter is often not the best option for outdoor projects of any kind.
  2. Daylight Hours. With winter’s weather also comes winter’s short daylight hours. Not only can weather play a part in determining your contractors work schedule for your homes project, but the short days that come with the colder weather will also play a huge role in the completion of outside renovations. During the summer, contractors can work into the later part of the evening with plenty of light, however as the winter gets closer, light is lost earlier and quite quick causing the end of theses workers days to be as early as 4 pm.
  3. Knowing Contractors off Season. Because of limitations for certain contractors and their line of work, they often have off seasons and/or are a seasonal business. Make sure when planning your project timeline that is it not during these contractors’ off-season. Similar to that, be aware of their busy seasons as well, and plan accordingly.
  4. When you are Home. Because of the inconvenience that home renovating can cause the homeowner’s daily lifestyle, especially big in-home projects, you may think planning for a time that you and your family will not be home may be best. However, this is not correct. During renovation projects, it is common for things not to go exactly as planned and for unknown issues to arise. The contractor will often need your input and need to be in contact with you throughout the process. Not being available can prolong to project and/or produce undesirable results.

The Brothers that just do Gutters off seasons is during the later winter months, and because of this we make sure to get all of our clients’ work booked and completed before then. As winter approaches, the shorter daylight hours limits how many jobs we can complete in one day. We love when the homeowner is home when we are working on their project so we can ask them any questions we may have along the way, but we understand our clients’ busy schedules and accommodate accordingly. It is currently our busy season and we are working hard for our clients to make sure to complete all of their work before February. Be sure to consider these four factors when planning for your next home repair, or remodel!
