At The Brothers that just do Gutters, we are continually researching new products to make sure that we are always offering the best materials available on the market to our clients. Recently, when doing this research, we found a new-to-market gutter guard unlike any we’ve seen before. By combining some of the best qualities from guards already on the market with research on the biggest complaints and flaws of a number of industry leading guards, our current guard manufacturer was able to create a unique and extremely effective design and solution.
As the Holidays are quickly approaching, we have had a number of clients that have had gutter guards installed reach out to us expressing concern with not being able to hang their holiday lights from their gutters like they used to. Although they are extremely satisfied with their guard and its functionality, they still want to hang lights, and are looking for tips on how.
This question is not new, as every year around this time we get a bunch of clients calling in to ask. Because of this, we decided to do some research and find some easy products you can use to hang your lights in a similar manner with a guard.
There are a number of different hooks, and clips with fairly easy installation processes that homeowners can use with guards to hang Christmas lights.
- The ChristmasHook is designed specifically to fit gutters with a mesh gutter guard. These hangers are made out of metal and can be crimped and uncrimped by hand to meet your lighting needs. The item can be purchased HERE.
- Leaf Screen/Gutter Clips clip onto your gutter guard for another easy means of installing your holiday lights. They can hold an assortment of different types of lights and can be found HERE.
- Installing lights on your roof shingles instead of your gutters, or under your gutter system can also be good solutions. There are “all-in-one” type clips that allow for you to do this providing a number of different hanging options with just one clip. You can find an example of an “all-in-one” HERE. There are also shingle tab products that function similarly.
- Adhesive clips are another possible option. Adhesives should be applied to clean surfaces – possibly shingles, onto the gutter, or other viable surfaces. HERE is an example.
These are just a few of the products we have found that could work with our guards and of course there are other solutions, and DIY ways to solve the Christmas light-hanging dilemma. We would like to remind you to be careful if you decide to install these on your own, as climbing a ladder always causes potential risks. Make sure to be safe and if you do not think you can install these products, or anything similar on your own we would be happy to do so for you and/or to offer them as an add on during the installation of future gutter guards!
