We have a list of common questions about gutter guards. Our Solutionists have help to compile questions they hear from customers. We want to best answer your gutter guard faq.

Gutter Guard FAQ

Q: I live in a home with a lot of trees, and have wasted my money on several different expensive gutter guards. How do I know that your guard will work?

A. Mesh guards have been on the market for decades. Since then, we have sold millions of feet of our gutter guard product. Our gutter guard is designed to handle large volumes of water while preventing debris as small as sand from entering. We also offer a warranty on our product, for added peace of mind. (Please consult your Solutionist for more details).

Q. Are mesh gutter guards maintenance free?

A. It is important to note that there is no such thing as a maintenance-free gutter guard. If a representative from any gutter guard company claims this, it is best to proceed with caution. Your gutters play a crucial role in preventing water damage to your home. Our gutter guard product is designed to protect your home from clogged gutters and the need for interior cleaning. While the product is designed to self-shed with the wind, some homes may require occasional brushing of debris from the surface.

Guards In The Winter

Q. How do mesh guards handle snow & ice?

A. Mesh guards are designed to prevent gutters from filling with snow and ice, which can cause excessive weight. Our guard product is constructed with an under structure that is 4x stronger than other guards on the market. This increases the strength of your gutter system and allows it to withstand the weight of snow and ice. Additionally, the mesh design freezes quickly, creating a bridge between the snow/ice and the inside of the gutter. This allows the sun to warm the roof and melt the snow off the front edge of the gutter, allowing water to flow through the mesh. Some clients may experience icicles during the melting process and throughout the winter. It is also believed by some professionals and homeowners that mesh guards can help alleviate ice damming by allowing the snow and ice to melt off the front of the gutter instead of filling the gutter and growing higher up the roof-line.

Q. I heard mesh guards cause ice damming. Is this true?

A. This question comes up often. If a home is experiencing ice damming, it is typically the result of poor attic insulation. Even homes without gutters can experience ice dams with asphalt shingles. It is essential to properly insulate the home before addressing gutter guards. If the attic space is properly insulated and ice damming persists, we offer a heated gutter option to address the challenge.

Style & Sizes

Q. What sizes are available?

A. Our guards are available for both 5″ and 6″ gutters.

Q. How are they installed on the gutters?

A. Our gutter guard is designed to overlap, preventing gaps found in some alternative guard products. The front of the guard is attached to the lip of the gutter and the back is attached to the fascia of the house under the drip edge. This prevents water from dripping behind the gutter.

Q. Can I install mesh guards myself?

A. Professional installation of mesh guards is recommended. Our crews must pass an installation training session conducted by the manufacturer in order to install our gutter guard product. Professional installation is necessary to prevent unforeseen problems and ensure that all panels are installed and pitched correctly.

Q. Is there anything I should do after my guards are installed?

A. We recommend you inspect your gutters after the second good rain after installation. This is because the product sometimes has oils and greasing agents from the manufacturing process. You will want to look for any area on the house that may have water overshooting the gutters. If you have any areas where the water is coming over the gutter, make a note of the location. We will come back out and make the necessary adjustments.

Sales Experience

Q. A salesperson from another company said they have a lifetime guarantee also. Why do so many companies offer a lifetime warranty?

A. This is a typical tactic used in gutter guard marketing. A company that offers a lifetime warranty may be suggesting that they will come back out to your home to clean your gutters for free, but this also means that you will be at their mercy for scheduling. This could potentially result in waiting for weeks with clogged gutters.

Q. I have seen a couple other products that use stainless steel mesh. What’s the difference?

A. Every product has specific features that differentiate it from every other guard. We have made it our job to research all products we offer to our clients in depth to make sure we are offering a solution with the best combination of features to protect and strengthen the gutter. We are always keeping up to date on the latest and greatest solutions. The specific guard we use features an interchangeable mesh to allow the guard to adapt to different situations. This means that the mesh can be easily exchanged.

Q. Some of the sales people that have come out have been very pushy. Are your salespeople like that?

A. It is unfortunate that some companies in this industry employ salespeople who will do whatever it takes to close a deal. This is not an approach we condone. We have chosen to focus on providing solutions rather than solely selling products. This means taking the time to meet with homeowners and listen to their needs to determine the best solution for their unique situation. As a result, we have changed the title of our sales team from Salesmen to Solutionists. Our Solutionists will thoroughly assess your gutters, provide a written proposal, and are happy to have homeowners present during the estimate to ensure that all concerns are addressed. We want everyone to be satisfied with the proposal we provide.
